A Tinius Olsen Tensile Testing machine is used to apply mechanical stress at a working
load limit of maximum 74,000 lb. of tension and 120,000 lb. of compression. Tensile tests
directly measure the ultimate strength, maximum elongation, and reduction in area.
Testing reveals the Young’s modulus, yield strength and strain-hardening characteristics
of the sample.
